“We have to improve at safety, getting in position to make some of those plays,” he said. “We can’t continue to give up big plays. My emphasis, has been on that as much as anything.”
Bears coach Lovie Smith dropping the cold hard truth about the team’s disappointing play at the safety position.
Which begs the question: when will third-round pick Chris Conte (California) get some playing time?
“We start from scratch each week,” Smith said. “You see what happened that last game and what you think you need to do coming up. Chris Conte … hasn’t really gotten an opportunity, so who knows?”
Who knows, maybe undrafted (Delaware) rookie free agent Anthony Walters, who was recently elevated from the practice squad to replace Winston Venable, will get some action along with the former Golden Bear in the club’s shaky secondary.
Needless to say, anything’s better than seeing an injured Chris Harris or Brandon “Crash” Meriweather at safety.
