Glendale, Arizona Lands Super Bowl XLIX

The National Football League has voted to award Super Bowl XLIX to the bid presented by Glendale, Arizona.

After failing to achieve a super majority, Arizona won a simple majority vote over a competing bid from Tampa, Florida to host Super Bowl XLIX, which will be the second Super Bowl held at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Opened in 2006, University of Phoenix Stadium was the site of the New York Giants win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. With the next three Super Bowls being held in the eastern part of the United States, Arizona’s bid was the favorite today.

Tampa has hosted four Super Bowls (XVIII, XXV, XXXV, XLIII), with the last two held at Raymond James Stadium.

Super Bowl XLVI will be held in Indianapolis, Indianapolis next February, Super Bowl XLVII will be in New Orleans, Louisiana after the 2013 season. Super Bowl XLVIII will be held on February 2, 2014 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
