The Redskins announced that they have added cornerback Phillip Buchanon to the 53-man roster.
Though the Redskins knew that he would be suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, they re-signed Buchanon to a one-year deal worth just over $2 million in August.
Buchanon started five of 16 contests for the Redskins in 2010, recording 49 tackles and a pair of picks along with 18 passes defensed. The 31-year-old Miami alum is likely to be active for this Sunday’s showdown at home with the NFC East rival Eagles.
Buchanon takes the roster spot of cornerback Brandyn Thompson, who was waived last week. Thompson cleared waivers and has been re-signed to the practice squad, with defensive back Nate Ness having his practice squad contract terminated.
