Someone was calling for Chiefs 6-foot-2, 238-pound running back Jackie Battle to receive more attempts prior to Sunday’s 19-carry, 119-yard showing in Indy – smart move.
And it wasn’t anyone in the team’s front office – or on the coaching staff.
Instead, it was a fan, who knows looks like a genius.
During his post-game press conference, the club’s head coach Todd Haley revealed he had gotten an anonymous letter from a fan calling for the Houston product to get more carries.
Haley then read the letter to the former Cougar before Sunday’s clash with the Colts.
“I actually got a note from a fan that didn’t even leave a return address,” Haley explained. “Number one, he liked my hat which I appreciated. He was a marine and he liked that I yell a lot. He said yelling is what got his life in shape. Then he spoke about Jackie.
“I read Jackie the letter before the game and this guy for whatever reason believes in Jackie Battle. He said, ‘you need to give Jackie Battle the ball. I think he’s another Arian Foster.’ I don’t know all the words exactly but I’ve been really impressed with Jackie.”
The next Arian Foster?
At least, Battle is from the city and attended the school where Foster plays.
Time will only tell if the comparisons stop there.
