The Jets have placed veteran linebacker Bryan Thomas on injured reserve.
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Thomas tore his Achilles during the first quarter of Sunday night’s 34-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. A 2002 first-round pick out of Alabama-Birmingham, Thomas has 418 tackles and 31 quarterback sacks for the Jets, missing just three games over the last 10 seasons.
Thomas had appeared in 114 consecutive games, a streak that will end on Sunday.
Taking Thomas’ spot on the 53-man roster is rookie linebacker Eddie Jones.
Signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2011, Jones recorded 10 tackles, including three on special teams, during the preseason. Jones also forced and recovered a fumble while covering a punt that set-up a touchdown in the Jets’ preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Waived by the Jets in September, Thomas was re-signed to the practice squad in Week 4.
