The Lions have signed veteran safety Vincent Fuller, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports.
Terms were not disclosed.
A fourth-round choice out of Virginia Tech by the Titans in 2005, Fuller registered 162 stops, two sacks and six picks in 75 contests in mainly a reserve role with Tennessee from 2005 through 2010. Four of Fuller’s interceptions were “pick-six’s.”
Released by the Titans on September 3, the former Hokie had workouts with the Patriots and Chiefs last month.
The veteran safety has ties with Lions head coach Jim Schwartz, who was the Titans defensive coordinator when Fuller was drafted. Lions safeties Amari Spievey and Erik Coleman were both hurt during Sunday’s impressive 34-30 comeback triumph over the Cowboys, with Coleman likely to miss some weeks worth of action.
The undefeated Lions host the 2-2 division rival Bears on Monday night and don’t have to unveil an official injury report until Thursday. Another roster move will be required to officially make Fuller a part of the 53-man squad.
