Report: Eagles rookie Watkins reinserted as starting right guard

Eagles first-round pick Danny Watkins will make his presence felt in the starting lineup this Sunday at Buffalo, Geoff Mosher of The News-Journal reports.

Selected with the 23rd overall choice of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Baylor, the 26-year-old former firefighter from British Columbia began training camp and the preseason as the starting right guard. Watkins was benched in favor of Kyle DeVan, who was claimed off waivers from the Colts, where DeVan had played under first-year Eagles offensive line coach Howard Mudd.

According to Mosher, the Baylor alum will take DeVan’s right guard gig this week against the Bills.

Though he was signed to a four-year, $7.9 million contract that included nearly $6.5 million in promised paper, Watkins has been inactive in for each of the first four contests this season.
