For the tenth time in his career, Bears wide receiver/return specialist Devin Hester has been named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hester returned a punt 69 yards to the end zone in the 34-29 victory over the Panthers in Week four, setting an NFL record with his 11th punt return to paydirt at the pro level. The Windy City Flyer also generated a 73-yard kick return to setup a Matt Forte touchdown three plays later; which gave the Bears a 17-10 lead early in the second quarter. The return followed a Panthers drive capped off by a Cam Newton rushing touchdown to tie the game at 10-10.
The former Hurricane legend returned three punts for scores as a rookie in 2006, four more in 2007, and after two years without a touchdown return, led the NFL with visits to the land of six on three punt returns last season.
