Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble will not play Sunday in the Windy City, the team announced.
Gamble suffered a concussion in the Panthers’ 16-10 triumph over the Jaguars in Week 3. The former Buckeye did not practice all week and was listed as doubtful on Friday’s injury report. The veteran cornerback did not accompany the team to Chicago.
With the Ohio State product out, former Patriots cornerback Darius Butler will make his first start for the Panthers, Ron Green of the Charlotte Observer reported on Friday.
“He’s played well,” Panthers head coach Rivera said of Butler. “He’s played a lot of very good football for a good organization. For him to come in and be part of what we do, I feel very comfortable with that.
“He’s a physical guy that runs well, has good closing speed. He has good hands and a good break on the ball.”
In addition to Gamble, Panthers safety Charles Godfrey and right tackle Jeff Otah have missed games with concussions already this season.
