Eagles bench rookie LB Matthews for sixth round pick Brian Rolle

One rookie for the other.

The Eagles have made rookie Brian Rolle the new starting weakside linebacker on defense, ahead of fellow first-year teammate Casey Matthews according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Matthews was moved from middle to weakside last week.  He then promptly bit way too hard on play-action and gave up a 40-yard touchdown pass to the Giants’ Brandon Jacobs.

Rolle was drafted in the sixth round out of Ohio State.
