Chargers defensive end Jacques Cesaire will miss at least two weeks after straining his right knee during Sunday’s 20-17 win over the Chiefs, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Defensive end depth is an issue for the Chargers, as they are without Luis Castillo (broken tibia) for the foreseeable future and Cesaire was starting on Sunday for injured first-round pick Corey Liuget, who was out with an ankle injury.
The Chargers host the Miami Dolphins and visit the Denver Broncos before their bye week.
In Liuget is unable to play against Miami, the Chargers would be down to four healthy defensive linemen, with either 2010 fifth-round pick Cam Thomas or Ogemdi Nwagbou starting at defensive end along Antonio Garay and opposite Vaughn Martin. The Chargers could add another defensive lineman, perhaps signing rookie Charlie Bryant off the practice squad.
