Halftime Thoughts

Sure, there’s still game to go, but that’s the aggressiveness on defense, and the creativity on offense we’ve been looking for, as the Giants are up 14-13

I’m loving the creativity on offense. The first touchdown, with Jacobs going out long, is something they need to do more of. That’s creative. I love the wheel route concept on the Cruz touchdown, the bubble route. I think the line has been really good so far. Not too much going on in the running game, but a lot of that has to do with some of the big plays. I still think they need to establish that, but the Giants are finding that the linebacking core of the Eagles just isn’t that good.  But, I loved the 37 yard run by Bradshaw. Great play call. More of that, please. I don’t want to see the Giants abandon the creativity, and I fear that they will.

I’ve really liked the pass defense so far. I think Vick is not 100%, and you can see that pretty clearly. He looks maybe a little tentative, and I think that has something to do with the concussion. Aaron Ross had the interception, and I think that’s a confidence booster. I don’t like the run defense. You’re starting to see just how good LeSean McCoy is, and the Giants aren’t really finding an answer for him. McCoy is so slippery, so good at cutting back, it becomes very difficult to get him down after first contact. They’re doing a lot of stretch plays, inside handoffs, so they’re mixing it up. You’re going to see the Eagles run a lot, because, incredibly, the air attack just isn’t really working.  Yes, the Giants are in nickel, and the Eagles like that there’s only 2 LBs for the most part, but you still have to cover DeSean Jackson.  They’re getting a bit of pressure on Vick, and that’s a key to stopping him. I’m impressed.

Giants are benefitting from big plays, for sure, but they’re capitalizing when the opportunities are there. I think they have to establish the run, and find a way to stop LeSean McCoy. The first quarter was just about perfect, the 2nd quarter not so much.  Still, I think the Eagles have a lot of momentum, and they just have to find a way to stop Shady McCoy. They’re stopping the pass game, not the run. I didn’t like how the half ended, on both sides. I think the Eagles are going to come out strong. They get the ball to start the 2nd half. You have to watch for that. The Giants need to get a nice long drive to kind of slow this down. And note to the Giants: stop messing around after the play. Stop pushing, stop shoving. Just play the damn game.
