Patriots defensive end Andre Carter has been fined $15,000 for his roughing the passer penalty in the second quarter of the Patriots’ 35-21 win over the Chargers, Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe reports.
“I thought I was home free,” Carter said. “But it ended up being a nice little letter on my seat. I kind of knew what it was. It probably meant I got fined.”
Carter was deemed to have lowered his helmet to hit Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, but plans to appeal the fine.
“Going towards the quarterback in kind of that no-man’s land, you’ve got to take a shot,” said Carter. “It wasn’t necessarily dirty, that’s just what defensive ends, defensive players thrive off of when it comes to harrassing the quarterback and getting that pressure.”
