The Patriots announced the signing of linebacker Jeff Tarpinian to the 53-man roster.
Linebacker A.J. Edds has been waived and defensive back Josh Victorian has been signed to fill Tarpinian’s spot on the practice squad.
Signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa, the 6-foot-3, 238-pound Tarpinian made the 53-man roster at the start of the regular season, but was inactive for the season-opener against the Miami Dolphins. New England waived Tarpiniand re-signed him to the practice squad last week.
Edds was Tarpinian’s college teammate and was a 2010 fourth-round pick by the Miami Dolphins. Claimed off waivers before the start of the season, Edds had one tackle in two games for the Patriots.
Victorian signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound cornerback had six tackles and an interception in four preseason games before he was waived as part of the Ravens’ final roster cuts.
Along with cornerback Phillip Adams, who was signed to the Patriots’ 53-man roster, Victorian worked out for the Patriots this week. Patriots safety Patrick Chung (thumb surgery) and cornerback Kyle Arrington (concussion) missed Wednesday’s practice, and rookie cornerback Ras-I Dowling was limited with a hip injury.
