Sunday in the home opener at LP Field, the Titans formula for an upset win over the Baltimore Ravens worked to perfection. They kept Baltimore on their toes on offense, and kept Joe Flacco and the Ravens run game under wraps on defense.
The result – a 26-13 win that puts Tennessee at 1-1 as they head into this weekends game against the Denver Broncos at home.
Denver scored a 24-22 win at home over the Bengals Sunday, as they got a good game from QB Kyle Orton and WR Eric Decker had a TD and over 100 yards receiving.
Orton and the Broncos come to town looking to get to 2-1, and they will try to do it with the passing game, a unit that if Orton is on, can challenge the Titans secondary.
The Broncos run game has been good as well, last week it was former Ravens RB Willis McGahee last week ran for 101 yards in the win over the Bengals, and he will probably have the bulk of the carries vs the Titans as well.
The key for the Titans will again to play sound, mistake free football, something they did last week in the win over the Ravens. Matt Hasselbeck played an excellent game, going for 358 yards with a TD and a pick.
He has the hottest WR in the AFC on his team in Kenny Britt, who again had over 100 yards, and will pick on a banged up Broncos secondary that was without Champ Baily a week ago.
It’s also time to get Chris Johnson going. He has been held down the first two weeks of the season, and even heard boos from the home crowd for the first time in his career on Sunday.
74 yards on 29 carries for the Titans on the ground isn’t gonna get it done week in and week out, and this week they have to get that ground game going.
They have to pressure Orton and get him to make some forced errors. They held Flacco to 197 yards on 15-for-32 passing with two picks. They get that effort again on D, and they will move to 2-1.
The Titans gained a huge amount of confidence with the home win a week ago, and I think here at home they will again be carried by Britt and Hasselbeck and will get a win over the Broncos. Tennessee 24 Denver 17
