The Rams suffered yet another loss at the cornerback position on Sunday, losing CB Tim Atchison of the year with a hamstring injury. And to fill the empty spot on the roster, the Rams called up recently signed corner Josh Gordy from the practice squad. Jim Thomas got the intel today.
As much as I like this cornerback churn from the practice squad to the active roster to the IR – wait, check that, I do not like it. The Rams need a better long-term solution in their cornerback depth. Their practice squad players are not going to cut it and Marquis Johnson, who we haven’t seen in over a year is still several weeks from returning from the PUP list. And there is no guarantee that Johnson will be much better than the practice squad members either way.
No one is interested in getting rid of good corners and the Rams seem more than happy to sign bottom of the roster guys to fill out their depth at corner. So, going forward, this looks like the typical moves we will see from the Rams. With all the pressure the Rams put on their corners with their blitzes, they will need to give them a slight bit more investment.
