Seahawks left guard Robert Gallery will be sidelined four-to-six weeks after re-injuring his groin that will require surgery, head coach Pete Carroll announced on Monday.
Gallery, who was out of action for the season-opening loss to the 49ers with a knee injury, played through the groin injury during Sunday’s 24-0 shutout loss to the Steelers at Heinz Field.
Veteran guard Paul McQuistan is expected to replace Gallery in the starting lineup. McQuistan played for offensive line coach Tom Cable with the Raiders, and has started 12 of his 37 contests in the NFL. Sunday’s home-opener against the division rival Cardinals would mark McQuistan’s first NFL start since the 2007 campaign.
The Seahawks had started 2011 first-round pick James Carpenter at left guard in the season-opener, but Carroll said the plan is to keep him at right tackle.
The 31-year-old Gallery was signed to a three-year, $15 million contract in free agency.
