Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis announced that he has a torn ACL in his right knee.
For Davis, this is the third time in the last two years he has torn his ACL.
Selected with the 14th overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Georgia, Davis had 339 tackles, 11 quarterback sacks and three interceptions in his first 69 games before tearing his ACL midway through 2009, the final year of his rookie contract.
Prior to 2011 training camp, Davis inked a four-year, $33.2 million contract extension that included a $7 million signing bonus, with a $1 million base salary and $1 million roster bonus in 2011.
Davis joins fellow teammate and middle linebacker Jon Beason, who tore his Achilles’ in Week one, on the Injured Reserve list for the Panthers.
