Halftime Thoughts

Kind of a weird half, but it’s working, as the Giants head into the half leading 21-6 .

The Giants offense hasn’t been great; they’ve benefitted from mistakes from the Rams. Too many 3 and outs, and they just can’t convert on third downs. They’re abandoning the run game, and that has been showing promise. Need to get back to it. Eli hasn’t been great. He’s been helped out by Hakeem Nicks, who has been terrific. Eli’s interception was not good, obviously. Not really clicking, which is seemingly becoming a theme. I don’t understand why they won’t go back to the ground game. It’s simply more effective. They’re trying to air it out, and understandably so, with a banged up Rams secondary. But it’s not working. So stick to the run. Don’t get it. The last drive, however, was much better, ending in a touchdown.

Defense had the big play, the fumble recovery. Love to see that. Plus, the goal lline stand. But, Ross and the secondary have been getting beat. The Rams offense is beating themselves more. than the Giants defense stopping them. Some big plays by Bradford. They are finding soft spots in the zone.  Giants need to find more pressure. When they pressure Bradford, good things happen. The Giants started doing that late in the half, and it started to work. More of that. Run defense has been strong, though. The Giants did start to find their way on defense as the half went on. Michael Boley was great, with the fumble recovery and good pressure. Rocky Bernard and Chris Canty were also terrific at defensive tackle.

The Giants can win this game, they need to start clicking on offense, get the ball to Nicks, and get the run game going. Rams have had opportunities, but the defense has shown up when they’ve needed to. Have to keep doing that. More pressure. Bradford hasn’t really effectively dealt with pressure yet so far.  Force the Rams to keep making mistakes. Good things will happen.
