Running back Jamaal Charles has suffered a torn ACL, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the RB will miss the rest of the 2011 season.
Charles was running out of bounds when his foot hit the first-down marker on the turf, causing him slip and land awkwardly during the first quarter of the Chiefs’ 48-3 loss to the Detroit Lions.
This latest injury news comes a week after the club lost Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry to a torn ACL.
A Pro Bowler himself in 2010, Charles has 12 carries for 83 yards and five receptions for nine yards and a touchdown in five quarters of work this season. Without Charles for much of the Lions loss, Dexter McCluster had a team-high 51 yards rushing while Thomas Jones led the team with 12 carries.
The Chiefs also have fullback Le’Ron McClain, who had 902 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing for the Baltimore Ravens in 2008.
