DeSean Jackson is in the final year of his contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, and is making a meager $600,000 for the caliber of wide receiver he has developed into. Before Philadelphia’s free agency spending spree, Jackson was at the top of the Eagles re-signing list. To prove a point earlier this year, Jackson held out of training camp in hopes of securing a new contract, but the Eagles didn’t budge and he came back on his own.
Not taking any risks — Jackson has taken an insurance policy out on himself. The Cal product has suffered two concussions in his career, and both have required him to miss extended playing time. The insurance policy would surely cover any money that would be lost if Jackson were to have another injury and cover any of his potential earnings. When Jackson was asked about the price of the contract, he responded with, “Millions.”
It would be shocking to see the Eagles elect not to resign Jackson at the end of this season, as he is one of Michael Vick’s favorite targets, and also the most explosive player in the NFL. Not to mention that Jackson loves playing in Philadelphia, and has been great with connecting with his fans. According to rumors, Jackson wants a five-year $45 million deal, which would be roughly around half of what Vick’s contract ended up being.
Regardless, the insurance policy has no adverse effects on the Eagles, and gives Jackson some comfort if he were to get injured.
