Coach Bill Belichick didn’t view the 38-24 win over the Dolphins on Monday Night Football as a masterpiece, specifically not a work of art.
“We certainly got a long way to go,” Belichick said in the aftermath. “That was no Rembrandt performance but fortunately it was good enough.” … “I thought it was competitive tonight but there’s still a lot of things we need to do better, that’s obvious,” Belichick said. “We gotta go back to work. It’s the first game of the season, we got 15 more in the regular season. Hopefully we can improve on a weekly basis. We’re a long way from being a good football team right now.”
“A lot of energy, the place was lit up tonight and I thought our guys did a real good job here coming down, being focused, doing their job and trying to block out a lot of distractions,” Belichick said. “Miami played well. They got a good football team. I just think our guys made a few more plays. I’m proud of the way they played. We got a quick turnaround now, getting ready for San Diego. So we’ll enjoy this one for a few minutes but then we gotta get back to work and get ready on those Chargers.”
