Ugly, best describes Sundays contest for the Chiefs.
Kansas City suffered their worst opening week loss in 35 years in a 41-7 loss to Buffalo. Dexter McClusters fumble on the opening kickoff seemed to be a sign of things to come for the Chiefs on Sunday.
Kansas City was out coached and out played. What was supposed to be a defense of their AFC West title turned into a nightmare. Safety Eric Berry left with what could be a serious injury in the beating.
The top rushing team in the league last season seemed to look lost without Charlie Weis calling thR plays. The defense had more holes than Swiss cheese in the secondary, as Ryan Fitzpatrick looked like John Elway. Quite simply, there was nothing positive to take away from this game for the Chiefs and their fans.
Buffalo led 20-7 at halftime after the Chiefs got on the board on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Matt Cassel to Jamaal Charles. That was the only score the Chiefs would get on the day. Wide receiver Kerry Colbert caught his first pass in over two years, if fans are looking for any positives from the loss.
Haley took full responsibility for the loss after the game, which is no surprise. The big question is; Is this the team fans will have to watch for the entire season? Let’s hope not.
Next week the Chiefs will travel to Detroit, to battle a 1-0 Lions team that looked impressive on the road against the Bucs. If the Chiefs can’t get their act together in Detroit Rock City, the Lions will feast on them just like Buffalo did.
