After months of waiting, and even sweating that there may not even be a season, the NFL kicked off this week starting Thurs eve as the 2011 season started with the Packers vs the Saints.. It was a great start to what hopefully will be a great season.. Raider fans have to wait an extra day, but come Monday night, the 2011 Oakland Raiders will hit the field as they start their season against the division rival Denver Broncos.. You may not even know this, but going back to 2009, Oakland has won 7 straight in the division – crushing Denver twice last year by scores of 59 to 14 and 39 to 23.. With that being said, ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?? I know that I sure am !!
One thing I am going to be watching come Monday night is Denver’s D-Line vs the Oakland offense – Last year, the Broncos defense was horrible.. I am a 43 year old fat dude from Cleveland with bad knees, a bad back and a messed up neck – BUT – I probably could have ran for 100 yards on the Bronco’s defense last year. They were that bad. Last in the NFL in total yards (400.6 per game) Last in scoring (29.4 pts per game) and had an NFL-low 23 sacks with the 2nd lowest interceptions with 10.. Nothing much happened in the off-season that points to any changes. Meanwhile, the Oakland offense is looking poised for a breakout year. Campbell and company are starting to gel together and with Oakland’s powerful running attack, it seems that the advantage goes to Oakland..
Speaking of the 2 match ups from last year, in the 2 games against the Broncos the Raiders put up a total of 1010 yards – becoming the first team since the 1995 Steelers to post 1000 yards or more in one season against a single opponent. In the first meeting last October, Run DMC posted 4 touchdowns – by far his best game as a pro. In the December meeting, Oakland scored on the first play from scrimmage when Jacoby Ford took the ball on an end-around 71 yards for a TD. Campbell threw a 73 yard TD to Marcel Reece and Michael Bush added 2 TD’s of his own. Also in that game Run DMC pounded out 119 yards on the ground. Come this Monday night, Denver will put their NFL best 11 game home season-opener winning streak on the line. They will also be starting 3 rookies – linebacker Von Miller, Safety Rahim Moore and offensive tackle Orlando Franklin. The last time that happened for Denver was 38 years ago. Their opponent in that game? Yep, the Oakland Raiders.. The results? A 23-23 tie.. I don’t expect the same outcome in Monday’s game..
I predict a high flying shoot-out in Denver Monday night.. Do I see another 59 to 14 beatdown ? Probably not – but what I do see is an Oakland victory.. ML predicts Oakland 41 Denver 24.. GO RAIDERS !!!!
