Eagles Starting Right Guard Danny Watkins Benched

Watkins Out In Favor Of DeVan

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports Eagles first-round pick (23rd overall) Danny Watkins is out as the team’s starting right guard and the newly acquired ex-Colt Kyle DeVan is in. DeVan, scooped up off waivers on Monday, took all the first team reps during Wednesday morning’s session, a club source indicated.

Asked if Watkins was his guy, Reid would not verify, although he had said following Thursday’s preseason contest against the Jets that the Baylor product was still at right guard.

“I’m not going to get into all the personnel things here,” Reid stated during his Wednesday press conference. “We’ll see.”

Out of Oregon State, DeVan was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Redskins in 2008.

Last season, the former Beaver lineman started 12 of 16 games at right guard for the Colts.
