In an appearance on The Odd Couple with Barry Warner on Sportsradio 610 out of Houston, Gary Kubiak said he had heard that Donnie Avery – former Houston Cougar and St. Louis Rams wideout – had signed with the Colts.
If Avery is back healthy from his knee injury from last season (and he was listed as questionable for the final preseason game due to his knee), this would be a great addition and create an all-world receiving corps. Avery had 5 TD receptions in 2009 and 53 receptions for 674 yards and 3 TDs as well as 10 carries for 69 yards and 1 TD as a rookie.
The Colts still have Reggie Wayne. His best season, 2007: 107 receptions, 1510 yards, 10 TDs. He also had 111 receptions for 1355 yards and 6 TDs last season.
They still have Pierre Garçon, whose best season was actually this last one: 67 receptions, 784 yards, 6 TDs.
They still have Austin Collie who has 15 TDs in 25 regular season games.
They still have Anthony Gonzalez who, though listed as questionable, practiced with the team today. He has 10 receptions, 176 yards and 1 TD in two playoff games. His best season was 2008: 57 receptions, 664 yards, 4 TDs.
They also have rookie RB Delone Carter, RB Joseph Addai, and TEs Dallas Clark and Jacob Tamme to bail out Curtis Painter or Kerry Collins until Peyton Manning is ready.
UPDATE: Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM Radio has reported that Avery didn’t sign. WR Derrick Williams should be getting a job offer somewhere. Step up, GMs.
