Is Baltimore Better Than They Were a Year Ago?

The short answer is NO. With huge capital letters.

It’s taken me a little bit of time to try and process just what’s going on with this team the last few weeks.

The only thing I really do know is that they don’t have much cap room and unless Haloti Ngata’s extension gets finalized that situation won’t change. Also let’s keep in mind that this is an extension for one of the top Defensive players in the NFL and not re-working an existing contract. Fans have been quick to point out that our brothers to the North have redone a few contracts to free up space and have been on Ozzie Newsome for the slow pace of negotiations. Sorry fans, but there are never hometown discounts when it comes to scoring your potentially one huge payday in the pros. This may take some time.

Meanwhile the Ravens are stuck waiting and we sit and watch and wonder just what the Ravens team will look like come September when the Steelers come marching in. I’m not usually an alarmist but I am beginning to question just what the plan is for this season.

I certainly understand the constraints of the cap and that both Joe Flacco and Ray Rice will be due their big payoffs NEXT season. But I have to question why the Ravens signed another Safety when they already had two under contract. You need backups at Quarterback, Running Back and a proven Number Two Receiver now that the two most productive pass catchers in franchise history have signed with other clubs.
