The Texans are one of a couple of teams in the mix for CB Nnamdi Asomugha, a player who also is talking to the Jets, and reports also say that the 49’ers could be in the running for the former Raiders Pro Bowl CB.
While they continue their pursuit of the best free-agent cornerbacks — Nnamdi Asomugha and Johnathan Joseph — the Texans have convinced three of their free agents to remain in Houston. The Texans are in the mix for Asomugha and Joseph, according to two people with knowledge of the negotiations. Media reports from around the country say the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers could be the frontrunners for Asomugha. The Texans will have to restructure a lot of contracts if they’re able to sign Asomugha or Joseph, either of whom would fill the most important need on the team.
(Edited by Russ Loede) Update: According to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, the Texans have moved in front of the pack for Raiders shutdown corner Nnamdi Asomugha:
Hearing Houston has moved into the lead for Nnamdi Asomugha—money will be in the 12-14 mill per year range…Revis makes 11.5 per year
If the Texans land the prized Nnamdi, they could become the early AFC South favorites – it would be that big of a deal. Somewhere, Peyton is shaking his head in disbelief.
