How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Lockout

As the in house legal expert here at Ravens Gab I’ve been trying for some time to come up with a good article that outlines the legal ramifications of the NFL lockout. As you can probably guess, I’ve more or less failed miserably. After sitting down and mapping out the various arguments, legal precedents and all around shenanigans that comprise this whole mess, it quickly dawned upon me that I had enough material to write a small book.

So, instead of boring you to tears with countless pages of insights into the dark and murky world of legal procedurals (the kind of stuff they blessedly excise on Law & Order), I offer up this opinion piece by distinguished legal scholar Michael McCann, as originally published at Sports Illustrated.

To date, this is perhaps the most concise, thorough, well reasoned recounting of what could happen after June 3rd’s oral arguments before the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. I know many of you reading this will assume that McCann is just being an alarmist. It’s hard not too. However, make no mistake about it, the hypotheticals that McCann lays out are on the precipice of becoming reality, and when I say that the decisions of this Court could literally end the NFL as we know it, I do so without a single ounce of hyperbole.
