Newest Juicy Rumor: Atlanta Eyeing Jones Or Smith
- According to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders are trying to trade back into the first round today. Chris Mortensen of ESPN confirmed the Raiders are looking to get into the first round to get Colorado CB Jimmy Smith. No surprise here, I don’t know they’re going to keep Nnamdi, after spending their money elsewhere (Richard Seymour).
- A team source told Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens want to trade back from their No. 26 position in the first round to gain more picks in the second, but would take Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith if he were available . The source said the Ravens think Ohio State defensive end Cameron Heyward would be a stretch at the No. 26 slot even though Heyward has reportedly been one of the Ravens’ top prospects. I thought wide receiver or corner back; now, with Smith likely off the board, they’ll trade down.
- It has been rumored that the Falcons are vying to get into the top five or 10 to select one of the two premiere receivers — A.J. Green of Georgia or Julio Jones of Alabama — available in the NFL draft. According to Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it was learned late this afternoon that such talks were serious and constant and the Falcons still remain quietly confident that such a major coup could be possible. It might be that the Falcons end up with Jones, who’s likely to be chosen among Picks 6-10, whereas Green; shouldn’t get past Cincy. Any such move would be legitimately costly: It would mean the Falcons 2011 No. 1 pick (the 27th overall) and next year’s No. 1.
