Let me begin by saying I am a true desciple of Bill Belichick. I am an ardent believer of “In Belichick we trust.” He’s earned at least that much from us.
But that doesn’t stop me from making my own draft wish list each year, and hoping he agrees with me.
So far, he never has. Every single draft he’s led I have had a wish list, but not one of those times did I get what I wanted. When he picked Richard Seymour I was hoping for Koren Robinson. Daniel Graham? I wanted Ed Reed. When he picked Ty Warren, I thought he should have gambled on Willis McGahee’s shattered knee, and when he took Benjamin Watson, I had my heart set on Ben Troupe.
Belichick has his system, and sometimes he’s right, and sometimes he isn’t, but he is REALLY right much of the time–way more than most of his competition, and way more than I am. (Imagine if he had taken Koren Robinson?)
So tomorrow, when I don’t get what I want, I won’t be too bummed about it, because I trust the coach. But that doesn’t stop me from making my list because there is nothing more special than when you love a player, you get him, and then he becomes a star. (This is one of the many reasons I’m obsessed with Paul Pierce.)
