Here are a few rumblings around the Bengals as we limp towards week 16:
RB Cedric Benson was nominated for the AFC Offensive Player of the Week Award for his 150 yard performance on 31 carries, including an 18-yard touchdown run against Cleveland. Congrats to Ced for the nod from the league. Ray Rice would however win the award, after a gaining 233 total yards (153 rushing, 80 receiving) and 2 touchdowns versus the Saints.
After placing Terrell Owens on season-ending injured reserve, the team claimed Garrett Mills, a TE/H-Back off waivers from Philadelphia. Mills, in his fourth season out of Tulsa, started 3 games for the Eagles this year after stints in New England and Minnesota. For his career, he has 9 receptions for 110 yards, and no carries.
Its looking more and more like Chad Ochocinco, Marvin Lewis, or both feel they’ll be out the door come January. This week theytraded some unpleasantries through media, with Lewis calling Chad, “Mopey” and Chad firing back angrily on Twitter. In my opinion, both guys should be gone. We thank Chad for his services, and Marvin too, for that matter, but this attempt has run its course.
The injuries to T.O. (knee) and Chad (ankle) at this stage of the year are actually quite fortuitous. They will allow the team to give more snaps to Andre Caldwell, Jordan Shipley, and Jerome Simpson to see what they have at receiver before the draft and free agency. They all acquitted themselves well last week, and coincidentally (or not) the team won the game and Carson Palmer did not throw an interception.
In related news, Georgia stud WR A.J. Green has announced he’s coming out for the draft–CBA or no CBA.
And lastly, fan voting has concluded on NFL.com for the Pro Bowl, and OT Andrew Whitworth won the OT vote by more than 70,000. Barring an upset, he’ll be in the game. Congrats to Whit.
