Chiefs QB Cassel Has Laparoscopic Surgery on Appendix

Some were wondering where Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel was when he wasn’t on the practice field Wednesday, and now we know – the QB underwent laparoscopic surgery on his appendix Wednesday morning.

The Chiefs told the media that Cassel had a successful appendectomy and would return to work this week. As for now, the QB of the first place club is being viewed as questionable for Sunday’s AFC West showdown at San Diego.

Right now the the Chiefs have a two-game lead over the Chargers in the division with four to play, so playing the QB if he is not 100 percent isn’t as critical after the Raiders beat the Chargers Sunday, while the Chiefs won 10-6 over Denver.

If Cassel isn’t able to go, backup is Brodie Croyle, who has not played this season, would almost for sure get the start at QB. Cassel has played well in his second full year with the Chiefs, throwing just four picks all season in helping the team get to 8-4 and first in the division.
