Same Old Lions; Detroit gives Buffalo first win in 14-12 loss

The Lions have been talking about how this is not the same old Lions team, but with performance as brutal as any over the last 11 years they stamped themselves with the Same Old Lions label.

They came out flat, they were plagued by penalties, they made mistakes, they blew opportunity after opportunity and showed no signs of life.

The offense was terrible as Shaun Hill was inaccurate and the running game was awful. Jahvid Best looks slow and tentative, no doubt a result of his two turf toe injuries.

The offensive line couldn’t open holes or remember the snap count. Calvin Johnson had a decent game as did Nate Burleson, but they were hampered by Hill’s ineffectiveness.

The defense gave up a handful of big plays and failed to sustain a solid pass rush, but they only allowed 14 points and you can’t fault a defense for that type of performance.

I have been a Jim Schwartz fan long before he became the Lions’ coach, but at some point he needs to find a way to get this team to play well. They have awful discipline, they haven’t played well enough to win in any of their close games and the haven’t turned the corner despite being far more talented than last year.

This team has officially shed its up and coming label and they have fallen back into the realm of laughingstock.
