Giants Bye Week Thoughts & Musings

Jacobs is running “with authority” once again for the G-Men

Bye weeks suck, don’t they? Yeah, they do. Nothing like curling up with a nice cold beverage, some chips and wings and watching Giants football. That’s why there’s only one bye week. The Giants are back in action against the Seahawks. With the way the Giants have been playing lately, it should be fun to watch. Let’s put some “Thoughts and Musings” on the table:

-For the Giants to continue to be successful coming out of the bye, they just need to do what they’ve been doing. Rush the passer. Run the ball. Big plays from “Jet Blue”. As long as they do that, they’ll be fine.

-I’m hoping that Eli Manning will reduce his interceptions, but it’s not really up to him. I haven’t seen so many tipped balls go for interceptions. It’s just bad luck. Hard to tell if it will reverse. You have to imagine it will.

-Have I mentioned how much I love watching this defense play? It’s great. From defensive line all the way to the secondary, there are playmakers.

-I love watching Jon Goff play. Hard to imagine us saying that after the entire Giants community (myself included) ripped him during the offseason. Who here wanted to draft a middle linebacker? Yeah, I was leading the charge. Goff has been great though, particularly in run stopping. He has some work to do in pass coverage. But, he’s taken command of the defense, and is just making plays. Smart player. He’s grown so much.

-Who wants a big change on special teams coverage? I do. Duke Calhoun ain’t getting it done as the gunner. Might have been a mistake to keep him instead of Derek Hagan. They need a better gunner. Maybe newly signed Will Blackmon can do it. He’s athletic enough.

-Speaking of Blackmon, I would hope he gets a chance to do returns. When healthy, he’s been quite good. As an interesting side note, I know someone who went to the same high school as him. Small world.

-Political interlude: Please vote tomorrow. I don’t care who you vote for (although, I do have a preference, but since we aren’t political here at the Gab, I won’t dive into it). Just vote. Tell friends and family to vote. It’s so important, maybe now more than ever. And don’t vote for the hell of it. Be informed. Read up on the candidates. An informed voter is so powerful. An ill-informed voter actually does more damage.

-My early Pro-Bowl candidates from the Giants: Osi, Tuck, Nicks, Manning, Bradshaw, Webster

-Speaking of Webster, he’s been so, so dominant this year. I mean, no one is throwing to his side! When you have a shut down corner, the defense just becomes that much better.

-Has anyone seen Aaron Ross? The Giants prefer 3 safeties to 3 corners on many situations. Doghouse much?

-Wondering what the Giants will do when Madison Hedgecock comes back? Don’t. I think that job is Bear Pascoe’s. He’s been so good, so versatile. He’s a better blocker, and obviously, he’s a much bigger threat out of the backfield. I’m a bigger threat out of the backfield than Hedgecock is.

-I love seeing Brandon Jacobs run with authority again.

-If the Giants don’t win the division, I will be concerned. They are so much far and away better than every other team in the East. The only team somewhat close is the Eagles. But the gap is big. The Giants just have to do what they’ve been doing. I mean, have you seen the Cowboys? What about benching McNabb for Rex Grossman? The East, at least at the bottom, is in disarray.

-Music interlude: Not a huge rap fan, but of late, I’ve been really getting into it. Over the weekend, I listened, in their entireties, to Eminem’s new album and B.o.B’s album. Both were tremendous. I’ve always liked Eminem. Another solid effort by him. But, B.o.B, he’s tremendous. Love Airplanes Part II, Don’t Let Me Fall, Past My Shades (featuring the tremendous Lupe Fiasco) and Nothing on You (Featuring the equally tremendous Bruno Mars). Worth a listen. Maybe worth two listens.
