It will be interesting to see how Maclin reacts under the added pressure of being the “go-to-guy” with DeSean Jackson out
As we mentioned earlier today, it doesn’t look like Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson will see the field this Sunday against the Titans.
In Jackson’s absence against the Falcons, Jeremy Maclin stepped up big time. He had seven receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns. This included an 83 yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
With Jackson presumably out on Sunday, Maclin will need to step up yet again. He’s been a popular target for Kevin Kolb, but that has been as the number two receiver. Without Jackson playing, he will be covered by the opposition’s best corner Sunday; which in this case, is one of the NFL’s best, Cortland Finnegan.
Maclin’s style of play is similar to Jackson’s. He has the ability to score every time he touches the ball and likes to be on the receiving end of deep throws.
Against the Titans and Finnegan, Maclin will be the number one option for the Eagles. We got to see him as the number one option against the Falcons, and he played very well. Is there a bit of added pressure on Maclin going into this week? Yea, maybe. However, I don’t think it’s anything that he can’t handle.
He has the skill set that could make him a number one receiver for a lot of other teams. He’ll be the guy for the Eagles on Sunday and I hope he follows up the performance he had against the Falcons.
