Doesn’t seem like the Bengals are in a hurry to get coach Lewis an extension

The Bengals have not had any serious discussions with head coach Marvin Lewis about a contract extension, sources told Yahoo! Sports’ Michael Silver.

Lewis received an informal offer during the offseason that would keep his salary relatively similar to his current salary, which is considered in the middle of the pack among head coaches.

The question is, does Lewis deserve an extension? The Bengals have yet to win a playoff game with him as head coach, and it seems that despite winning the AFC North a season ago, they are heading nowhere fast and will need a turnaround to be a force in 2010.

The coach has been a steadying force for the Bengals, but in thinking about the future without him, one has to wonder if the team can do better should he be allowed to hit the open market after the season.
