Favre freezes when hit with the question of sending pics to Sterger

Brett Favre held his weekly press conference on Thursday this week because the Vikings will play on Monday instead of Sunday.

Kevin Seifert of ESPN wrote an interesting piece about how Favre’s arm was “conspicuously” iced during the presser.

As Seifert explains, Favre hardly ever ices down his arm and it seemed that Favre was making a blatant attempt at a public display for some reason.  The reasons are unknown and it could be a case of Favre doing what many suspect he has done in the past, which is to make preemptive excuses just in case he plays poorly.

The theory Seifert has, however, is that Favre is sending a message to his coaching staff that he needs to be put back on the practice “pitch count” that they abandoned after the 2009 season ended.  Favre has had to throw more passes in practice because every time he turns around his receiving group has changed.

“[This issue is] with the throwing arm, so [it’s] a little bit more of a concern.” He said, “I’ve probably iced more in the last three weeks than I have in my whole career.”

“I don’t want to say I’m getting overly mental, but I want to be crisp,” he said. “I want to be smart about it, but I do need the work. It’s not like I’m throwing to these guys for 10 years. Brad and I and Darrell and I, we’ve talked about how many reps to take and things like that. But I’ve needed to take as many as I can for obvious reasons, but I’m trying to be smart about it. I’m not too overly concerned about it right now.”

While Favre was willing, as always, to divulge way more about his physical status than coaches ever want him to, Favre was absolutely unwilling to discuss another topic that was brought up to him for the first time that we know of.

If you recall, Deadspin.com made allegations prior to this season that Brett Favre may have sent Jenn Sterger adulterous photos of himself and left questionable phone messages for her.

Sterger is a former contractor of the New York Jets and was working closely with the team as a sideline reporter when Favre was their quarterback.  Until today, Deadspin had not put forth any evidence to back up Sterger’s claims, but they have now posted some messages and photos.

“I’m not getting into that. I’ve got my hands full with the Jets,” was the only statement Favre made on the matter when it came up at his press conference today.

This could end up very poorly for Favre, the Jets, and the Vikings if the NFL decides to investigate (or already has investigated) the claims.  If you click here, you’ll find a pretty convincing article from Mike Florio at PFT as to why the league may soon have no choice but to put Favre’s personal life under the adultery microscope that has become such a norm in our society today… sadly.
