Browns QB Delhomme back at practice, should start Sunday vs Atlanta

Quarterback Jake Delhomme tested his right ankle in practice in Berea, and all signs point to him being the starter Sunday against Atlanta if the responds favorably.

When asked if he is ready to go, coach Eric Mangini seems to feel his starter is going to respond well to being out on the practice field. “Yes, I would say that’s the approach that we are going with. However, we’ve got to go through today with more reps,” Mangini said. “It will be more reps today than it was last week, so how he wakes up tomorrow and what that looks like will give us a better idea of whether or not he’s ready to actually go or whether we are just a step closer.”

Delhomme has not played since he badly sprained his right ankle in the season opener on September 12th in Tampa. He returned to practice last Thursday on a limited basis, but his injury didn’t improve enough for him to play against Cincinnati.

The former Panthers QB did seem more mobile during the 30 minutes of practice open to reporters on Wednesday, a good sign that he should go Sunday.
