The “Expendables” Making An Impact
It’s Baltimore’s version of the summer hit movie ‘The Expendables.’ In this case, a few talented players who did not fit into the plans of their former teams; they were deemed ‘expendable.’ These players found their way to the Ravens and are already making a positive impact for the team.
Here’s a look at the cast in the making:
Anquan Boldin, WR – AKA: “Quan” or “Q”
Traded by the Arizona Cardinals to the Ravens. Boldin is a physical receiver and playmaker. The move by GM Ozzie Newsome has already benefited the team’s offense. Boldin’s opening debut against the NY Jets included 7 receptions for 110 yards receiving.
T.J. Housmandzadeh, WR – AKA: “Housh”
Released by the Seattle Seahawks, the Ravens swooped in to sign the motivated wide receiver. Just signed a week before the Ravens first game versus the Jets, Housmandzadeh made a spectacular 27 yard catch in his first game with the team. He also drew a pass interference call to set up the Ravens only touchdown of the game. Talk about a competitor, ‘Housh’ was fired up after his reception.
Expendables, Supporting Cast?
Stay tuned…there will be more players who may make this ‘expendables’ cast. My guess is that defensive tackle Terrence Cody might just be next on the list.
Terrence Cody, NT/DT – AKA: “Mt. Cody”
Thought of as one of the premier nose tackles in college. Yet, he was passed up by several teams in the first round of the draft, that is until Baltimore selected him. Cody should fit in nicely with the Ravens tough run defense. Cody had a knee procedure and he may be ready to go by this Sunday when the team takes on the Cincinnati Bengals.
