Apparently Matt Leinart isn’t doing enough to allay fears that he won’t be able to lead the Cardinals to a third straight division title. Brad Wilbricht of Fox Sports Arizona isn’t happy with what he sees from the former Heisman Trophy winner. “Leinart has been struggling to avoid linebackers dropping in coverage and was picked off by Paris Lenon during Wednesday’s action,” Wilbricht noted. “In addition, Leinart held onto the ball too long and would have been sacked multiple times in a game situation.” The microscope’s lens is focused finely indeed.
I wouldn’t hit the panic button because a quarterback was picked off in pre-season drills or scrimmages, which is similar to criticizing a pitcher for a bad outing during spring training. I’d be more concerned with whether or not Leinart exudes a total lack of confidence or appears lost during practice, which to this point no one has reported.
