Earlier in this offseason, just like prior years, the Rams were linked with quarterback Michael Vick. The connection was tenuous at best because GM Billy Devaney was a member of the Atlanta Falcons front office while Michael Vick was in Atlanta. Devaney also visited Vick in jail (so far his first stint in jail) as a representative of the team.
So far as I can tell, the Rams never gave an offer to Vick when he was a free agent last year and never came close to trading for Vick this offseason. And now Michael Vick in trouble again as he has been banned from travelling outside of Pennsylvania due to a shooting outside of his birthday party. He was not involved in the actual shooting, but he was seen in an altercation and then swiftly left the party minutes before the shooting. Obviously, Vick is innocent until proven guilty, but the justice system has declared him important enough to the case that he is unable to leave the state.
We said over and over again that the Rams should not sign Michael Vick because of football reasons. However, we continually heard that he had turned the corner personally and was ready to play again. 62% of voters on Stltoday.com voted for the Rams to sign Vick. Everyone thought he would bring excitement to the Rams offense and increase attendance. Turns out the only excitement he would bring is off the field.
Signing Vick or trading for Vick was never a good idea. Is there anyone out there who still wants the Rams to sign Michael Vick?
