Ravens offseason upgrade also inlcudes coaches

Along with the offseason player acquisitions and draft picks, the Ravens added some solid coaches. Usually the team might lose a vital coach as they are offered opportunities with other teams.  Fortunately, the team gained coaches Dan Pees and Ted Monachino.

Dean Pees, Linebackers Coach

The new Linebackers Coach Dean Pees was a defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots and brings tons of experience to the Ravens.  He has thirty-seven years of coaching experience and six of those years have been years in the NFL. He  coached with Greg Mattison at the Naval Academy from 1987 to 1988. He was defensive coordinator during the 1983 season at Miami of Ohio, where Coach Harbaugh played defensive back under Pees.  It is good to know there is a coaching chemistry there and it will allow Pees to fit right in.

Extra Benefit

One added benefit is that Dean Pees comes from an organization (New England Patriots) who have had much success winning–that is a positive.  Further, because Pees has been a head coordinator running a defense it can only aid Coach Mattison with game planning and strategy.  Pees will have a great roster to work with, there is much depth with the Ravens linebackers. In essence, Baltimore is adding a veteran coach to the roster who can add much insight.

Ted Monachino, OLB Coach & T-Sizzle

Outside Linebackers Coach Ted Monachino is reuniting with Terrell Suggs who he coached in college, Arizona State University.  He has four years NFL experience which includes his tenure as the defensive line coach with Jacksonville and as mentioned, specialized in the defense line at the college level.  Terrell Suggs has been committed to having a productive offseason so that he will have a great year, Monachino should help with this goal.  The pass rush will be a crucial element to this year’s team and hopefully Ted Monachino success with Suggs will translate to the rest of the outside linebackers.
