Someone’s a little bitter about losing out on the Super Bowl to New York/New Jersey. Seems that South Florida host committee chairman Rodney Barreto claims that the votes were fixed, and that his cities presentation for hosting the game was so much stronger than that of NY/NJ. “We feel we will win 2015 or 2016,” Barreto said. “Hey, we’re top of the hill. We’re Humpty Dumpty. Everyone’s trying to knock us off the wall.”
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, after losing out to New Jersey in Tuesday’s 2014 Super Bowl vote, South Florida host committee chairman Rodney Barreto said, “The fix was in for New York. We threw $1 million extra on the table last night for game-day expenses. We could have put $10 million and it wouldn’t have made a difference. We put an incredible presentation that clearly was head-and-shoulders above everyone.”
While I wouldn’t say that it was ‘fixed,’ there is no question that the NFL leaned towards having their biggest game of the year right in the backyard of America’s biggest city. NY/NJ deserves one try, and while I think it may blow up in their face if the game turns into a flop due to weather, South Florida and Barreto should shut up, as they have had a couple games already and will again in the future.
