Saints say they have no interest in former Raiders QB Russell

It sounds like the Saints are not going to be bringing former LSU and Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell anytime soon. Rumors popped up upon his release that the Saints may be one team to take a flier on Russell, but coach Sean Payton says the Super Bowl champs don’t have an interest at this time.

Russell, the first overall pick of the 2007 draft, was downright awful with the Raiders, winning just 8 games in three years with them. He finally was shown the door on Thursday after a minicamp the weekend before where the team finally felt he was never going to be the player they thought they got at number one.

  1. Saints may be just hesitating to make a decision while observing Russell, who definitely is talented but has not been on the right way in NFL career development. Another possibility is that they may have known other teams interested in Russell and willing to take risk on him, so let them get. As the defending champion of this season, the Saints could not afford high risks in roster moves.

To say Russell is talented to be a QB in the NFL is about the same as saying Paris Hilton is talented to be an actress… just forget about it. He’s never going to make it nowhere.

Another possibility is that they may already know that the other team was interested, willing to take the risk of him, so the Russell they get. As the title this season, the saints cannot afford to high risk. list
