Saw this first on Riggo’s Rag — head PR Officer Karl Swanson has resigned of his “own accord”:
Karl Swanson, the Redskins top PR officer, will be stepping down. This is by his own accord. Swanson has been with the team since Snyder purchased it in 1999.
So I cross checked this news with PFT and was able to find this nugget about the situation:
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports via Twitter that Swanson “does need the family time he now is taking,” due to an 88-year-old mother-in-law who is in declining health and a 12-year-old daughter who “is being shuttled among friends.” (And that’s the primary problem with the widespread habit of folks being forced out of a job claiming that they are going to “pursue other interests” or “spend more time with their families.” The use of those excuses as cover for a termination or forced resignation creates suspicion even when they are the real reasons for a given move.)
So PFT thinks the family excuse is bogus and that he was forced out. Time will tell… it’s way too early to be sure of anything. It’s never too early to speculate, however.
UPDATE: Via The Insider, Texan’s PR official Tony Wyllie has been offered the job vacated by Swanson this morning:
The Redskins have offered the senior vice president position vacated Monday by Karl Swanson, a long-time associate of Daniel Snyder, to Tony Wyllie, the top public relations official with the Houston Texans, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. It’s believed that Wyllie will accept the position soon and a formal announcement could be made this week.
