Seattle Wants to Trade Down from #14?

According to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times, the Seahawks would like to trade down from their 14th overall selection in tonight’s N.F.L. Draft.

The news came out of a mock draft the beat writer did for his newspaper:

14. Seattle Seahawks

C.J. Spiller, RB Clemson | 5-11 | 196

Some think Spiller will be chosen in the top 10, others think Ryan Mathews will be first running back chosen. Seattle wants to trade down, but what if Spiller is there?

If Seattle does trade back, the team could still possibly pick up every-down-back Ryan Mathews before a team like Houston does at pick number 20.  Or the team could skip running back in the early rounds or altogether and stick with what it already has in Julius Jones and Justin Forsett.  Yet another idea is that Seattle could be eyeing up a running back in next year’s Draft, one like Alabama’s Mark Ingram.

Make sure to check back here at and over at throughout the day leading up to the Draft and routinely during the event as I’ll bring you the latest news and analysis on Seattle’s selections and potential moves.
