It’s a make or break year for Panthers head coach John Fox. If the team starts slow, or doesn’t at least make the postseason, there’s isn’t many that think he’ll be around as the coach in 2011. With that being said, there’s an interesting tidbit on GM Marty Hurney, as ESPN says there is a contract extension for him that still stands:
Unlike Panthers head coach John Fox, whose contract expires after the upcoming season, GM Marty Hurney has an offer for a new deal on the table. League sources have said Hurney was offered an extension sometime during last season and the offer still stands. Basically, the thinking was Hurney didn’t immediately accept the offer because he was waiting to see what happens to Fox, the coach he hired and has a long history with, but nothing new happened on the Fox situation.
One would think that if Fox is shown the door, Hurney would be right behind, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The Panthers haven’t been that stockpiled with talent to make Hurney that valuable, so one has to wonder why he would get to stay if the team has another bad season?
