Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News has an article posted about Leon Washington once again not showing up to the off season workouts . Really Leon? Really? All I can do is shake my head at this.
The speculation is that Leon is unhappy with his Tender, set at 1.75 million. His agent told the paper the fact that he hasn’t signed his tender doesn’t mean he’s not happy. What do I say to that? Complete bull. Of course he’s not happy. He wasn’t happy last year when he didn’t get a new contract, but he decided to play didn’t he?
Leon has been my favorite Jet for the last couple of years and I truly feel bad for him. The fact is no team is going to risk a 2nd round pick on him if he’s STILL recovering from his injury.
My take on all this is simple. The Jets like Leon. The Jets want Leon. But in order for them to offer him the money and long term deal he wants, they need to see how well he can play after this injury. The fact that they made it to the AFC Championship in 2009 and only one player, Leon Washington, doesn’t show up to voluntary workouts tells me this team wants to win. This team believes in Rex, who believes in them, and they also believe they can make it back there again this year.
My advice to Leon. Cut the crap, go workout with your team, go prove to the Jets you’re worth the money, and everything will work out in the end for you.
