Cable Still the Coach of the Raiders – For Now

It’s been a wild week full of headlines for the Oakland Raiders, and as usual, no one is still sure of the status of the team and its coaching staff. Tom Cable (as of this writing) remains the coach of the team, this despite a bunch of possible replacements coming in to take his spot.

Cable has had a couple meetings owner Al Davis about his job since the season wrapped up on January 3rd. The team under Cable went 5-11 in his first full season as coach. He is 9-19 since replacing Lane Kiffin early in the 2008 season, leading the Raiders to their NFL-worst seventh straight season with at least 11 losses.

“It’s still a fluid deal,” senior executive John Herrera said. “The assumption is they will continue to meet on the agenda in front of us until it comes to a resolution.”

Many NFL Insiders say that Cable is eventually going to be fired by Davis, yet you would think that if it was going to happen, it would have happened already. Maybe Davis can’t find the guy he wants to come in and replace Cable, or maybe Cable has said all the right things to stick around another season.

There’s really only one for sure thing for the Raiders so far this offseason, as the team this past week hired Mike Waufle as the teams defensive line coach.

I wonder if Davis has called Art Shell yet?
